Hey guys, I took a run down to Fluor Field in Greenville Saturday for my 2nd look of the young season at the Rome Braves. Young right hander Bryse Wilson was throwing for Rome.

Wilson, Age 19, listed 6’1″ 225 lbs, bats and throws right. He was drafted in the 4th round of the 2016 draft out of high school in Hillsborough, NC (Triangle, Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area).

Wilson’s pretty filled out, I guessed on the field 6’2″ 220 lbs, he stands on the 3rd base side of the rubber, has a 3/4 release point and a fast arm.  The delivery has some effort to it but he repeats it well. There is some fall off toward 1st base.

The fastball mostly sat 92-93, a few at 94, also a few at 90-91.  They all had some sinking action, he held his velo throughout the start.  Some control over command particularly arm side. 55

I suspect due to the arm speed he could add a few ticks in shorter stints maybe sit 95-97

Wilson’s 2nd pitch is a slider that sat 80-82 MPH, he flashed a few that showed very good bite including one that froze Greenville 3B Bobby Dalbec.  Most showed more of a gradual 2 plane break.  Flashed 55, sat 45

Wilson also throws a change up,  I only caught a few and they sat 84-85.  They seemed fairly straight to me but I honestly could use a few more looks at the pitch. 40

Sequencing:  Wilson worked off of his fastball all night 75%, with 20% slider and 5% change.

Conclusion:  I enjoyed watching Wilson work.  He has a very good fastball, both secondaries are going to need some work but hes in good hands in the Braves organization.  Due to the effort in the delivery I think there’s a good chance he ends up in the pen and he could be a late inning arm.

Up next at Notes:  A look at a couple of Kannapolis hitters.

I have a fund drive going on right now, I’m raising $$$ to counter the costs associated with live scouting a league this size (gas, food on the road and hotels for when I go to Greensboro, Kannapolis and Columbia) Only $40 still remain until I reach my goal of  $250 for the year.  I want to thank everyone who’s participated in the fund drive till this point.  I’m very appreciative.
