My 1st look at Desmond Lindsay (CF) Columbia Fireflies

Hey guys I made my 1st trip of the year down to Spirit Communications park in Columbia yesterday, I’ll be staying for one more game today and it’s an intriguing pitching match up with RHP Merandy Gonzalez going for Columbia and fireballer RHP) Mevin Adon going for Augusta.  I’ll have a write up on both pitchers tomorrow.  But today I want to talk about  Desmond Lindsay a high profile CF in the Mets system.

Lindsay- Age 20, listed 6′ 200 lbs, bats and throws right.  He was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2015 draft out of high school in Sarasota, FL.

Lindsay looked well put together 6′ 200 looked about right and he looks in fantastic shape.  He’s had a hard time staying healthy.  He missed most of his senior season of high school because of a hamstring injury and had more hamstring trouble in his 1st pro season.

At the dish Lindsay hits from a closed stance, with a slight crouch.  He utilizes a minimal leg kick for timing.  He keeps his hands high and is pretty quiet pre pitch.  It’s a short fast linear swing, the ball jumps off of his barrel.

The raw power is above average he’s a strong young man.   The bulk of the contact is in the air but to the right side of the diamond.

Speed, defense:  Plus speed, probably loses a step in a few years as he finishes filling out.  Still learning center but he went back on a ball very well last night and made it look easy.  I think he’ll be fine in the short and medium run out there (2-5 years) will probably end up in a corner in his late 20’s.

Conclusion: Lindsay is a physical specimen and a tooled up player.   Hopefully the hamstrings won’t continue to be a story.   He’s a patient hitter (perhaps a bit too much so)  he sees a lot of pitches.  He’s got the power to hit 20-25 HR’s but with current approach he’s more likely to top out in the upper teens.  Capable of stealing 20 bags early in his career.

I still have a fund drive going on to rise $$ to counter the costs associated with live scouting a league this size.  So if you enjoy the content, please consider contributing to keep Notes a viable option for me.  Because I love to do this. Thanks. I attached links to Pay Pal and the site Patreon.  Cheers
