Pick a Prospect Ozzie Albies or Jorge Mateo?

I’ll be wrapping up my look at the 2015 Sally shortstops soon, one more article to come (scouting Mauricio Dubon and Luis Jean) but first some fun. Hoping for some good feedback here.

Congratulations, you just joined a new startup dynasty fantasy baseball league, they’re in the midst of there MILB draft, you’re up and  you see Mateo and Albies are both available.  For the purpose of this game lets ignore all of your other available options and assume you’re picking either Albies or Mateo here. Who are you taking and why? Would your opinion change if you were selecting for real baseball rather than fantasy?

In case you’re not 100% prepared to make this decision, here’s a quick synopsis of each player. Of if you prefer I did a write up of each and posted the links below. Cheers.

Tale of the tape

(the 1st number you see is potential ceiling the 2nd is more likely outcome)

Albies 5’7″ 150 lbs age 18 bats both throws right

Mateo 6’0 195 lbs age 20 bats and throws right

Hit: Albies (70) 60/65 (300-310) both walk and strikeout 10-15%  Mateo (55) 45/50 (250-260) 10% walk rate and 20-25% K rate

Power: Albies 35  (3-6 HR) Mateo 50 (10-14)

Speed Albies 60 (20-30 SB’s) Mateo 80 (50+ SB)

Both players have enough glove, range and arm to stay at shortstop but there’s questions whether either will. Dansby Swanson is in the same system as Albies now so Ozzie might slide over to 2nd base and the Yanks had Mateo playing other positions at instructs. CF?
